Kali was has been taking her medicines regularly and she was slightly better over the weekend. Right up until Sunday her poos had been more-or-less normal but on Sunday she produced some very soft, and smelly, ones. It took a lot of persuasion to get her to come out for her playtime but once she was out she ran about for a few minutes collected her treats and used her potty. She climbed up onto the chair and found the treats I’d hidden there too. After about five minutes she went to her favourite corner and sat there for about half an hour. She then went to her potty again and left the very soft poo but after that she was quite active until it was time for her to go back to her house.

Kali was very good during her trip to the vet. Luckily she didn’t have to be examined so she wasn’t too stressed by the visit – she was still glad to get home though.

She’s back on the same medication she was taking last April when she was displaying the same symptoms. The vet suggested that the current problem may have been brought on by the change in the weather – it has turned much colder in the past few weeks – and this sort of stress can cause her symptoms especially if she has been left with any permanent damage or reduced liver function from the zinc poisoning. I was a bit sceptical but having checked last year’s diary she did get ill at about this time of year!

The vet wanted a poo sample before Kali started her medication so, after a couple of hours in her house, I got her out again for her usual playtime. She spent most of it sitting in her favourite corner but she did visit her potty so I was able to start her on her medication that evening.

This morning I was pleased to see that she’d eaten the medicine, in fact she’s cleared up all her food – she hasn’t done this for a week or two.

I’m taking Kali to the vet tonight. Over the past few days she’s become very withdrawn again. When I got her out to play the other night she went straight upstairs and sat in a miserable ball in her favourite corner. She spent a few minutes walking about looking for food and she also used her potty. She’s still eating and drinking OK but her poos are very soft and come out all stuck together in a big lump. Her symptoms are very similar to those she had last April.

It seems that the extra food that I’ve been feeding Kali is making her fat! She met some of my family this week and they commented that Kali’s a bit overweight. I’ve cut down her rations back to the level they were before she started to act so hungry. Kali isn’t impressed with the new arrangements and always seems to be looking for food. I’ll also try to get her to run about more when she’s out.
