Over the last couple of days Kali seems to have become very hungry. Her holiday has given her a huge appetite. She’s usually waiting by her house door in the mornings for me to arrive with her breakfast. As soon as I open the door she jumps up onto the ledge and is looking for her monkey nuts. Once I’ve given her these, to squeaks of delight, she jumps back into her house and waits until I’ve put in her new dry food. She races up her ladder and stuffs all the new food into her pouches. By the time I come back from cleaning out her potty hew bowl is completely empty. She’s the same with her evening meal too. She clears the food away very quickly and leaves her bowl clean. I’ve checked round her nest where she stashes the food and there is always a lot left so I don’t think she is actually hungry. I’ve increased the amount I’m giving her – just to be on the safe side.

Kali had a very good time out last night. She was only out for about half an hour but she spent the whole time running about and exploring. She was playfighting with a piece of kitchen paper and racing up and down the stairs. I can tell when she’s having a good time because she’ll suddenly jump on the spot, then race off to the other side of the room, turn and race back again.

I’ve been noticing that the claws on Kali’s back feet are getting very long. The claws on her ‘big toes’ are the worst and are beginning to curl round on themselves. I don’t think Kali will let me trim them. I haven’t tried to yet but I’m sure she wouldn’t even stay still long enough. When she was ill and had to be put under for x-rays and a blood test I asked the vet to trim all her nails because they were quite long then. I’ll try introducing some logs and branches into her house to see if she can ware them down a bit.

Kali has been away on holiday again. We’ve just come back from a week in the Peak District. I don’t think Kali enjoyed this holiday as much as she has enjoyed previous ones. We rented a large farmhouse and went with a large party. It was quite noisy and busy a lot of the time and Kali isn’t used to that level of activity. She hid away in her nest most of the week and was even quite reluctant to come out for her food when there were other people about. She travelled well and didn’t get frantic being shut in her travel tank. She was happy to come back to familiar surroundings and routines. I’ll put her holiday photos in the album shortly.
