Where did June and July go?

It has been a busy summer and both the new rat and Ambaa have been on holiday with us twice now. They have spent a week in a remote corner of Scotland and another week in the Lake District. They really enjoyed both holidays.

I’ve finally chosen a name for my little boy. He’s called Jaali – a Swahili word which means ‘be powerful’.

I’m still keeping the rats separate. I’ve been advised not to try to introduce them until Jaali is about five months old but he is growing very fast and already weighs more than Ambaa. I don’t think he’d have trouble looking after himself however I don’t want either of them to get hurt.

Jaali is still very friendly and he loves human company. He gets very excited when he comes out of his house to play. He is so full of energy that he can’t stay still – he is always rushing about. He likes to lick my hands and arms and generally groom me. However if he gets too excited he starts to nip me too. Usually he’s careful but he can forget himself and bite a bit too hard. He likes to sit on my shoulder and wash my neck and ears but lately he has got a bit rough and started to bite my ears. I’m trying to train him not to do this.

Ambaa has really benefited from having Jaali about. She is much more interested and inquisitive than she was. A slightly cheeky site to her character is comming out.
